Dark hair, pale skin, red lips, Katy Perry is always dressed like a pin up girl of the 50s and we love love LOOVVEEE her style! Before Lady Gaga blew up in popularity, it was all about Katy Perry dressing outside the box of the normal celebrity superstar. High waisted booty shorts and jumpsuit shorts are the definition of her signature style. Shopping in a thrift store may be the place to find gold in the treasure hunt to finding pieces of Katy's look. Some of her red carpet looks are so unique and hard to find, I'll be giving you my own interpretation of the look. So enough with the introduction, let's get down to business!
"Hello Katy" Look
This Hello Kitty inspired couture vest created by The Blonds for MAC’s Hello Kitty Auctions (once auctioned on ebay) can now be recreated by you! There's nothing like this vest unless you are crafty and creative, then you can make your own vest with Hello Kitty patches and accessories found very cheap on ebay. Search for any rhinestone patches that you can sew, iron, or pin on and go crazy with it! Otherwise, you can buy a regular corset top with liquid leggings and overload yourself in Hello Kitty accessories. This gives the idea of the same look you're going for without having to do much hand crafty work. I also found corset belts with chains to give you that extra rocker flair. You can use the corset belt or the pink belt for that extra pop of color that you see on Katy's top. Or, if you want, layer both belts! If you're handy, cut up a pink belt and glue straight onto your corset. Whatever the direction you take, it's hard to make a mistake with something this busy, so have fun with your recreation!
Queen of Hearts Look
When I was searching through all of Katy Perry's looks, I noticed themes. This one in particular is a poker/cards/dice theme and it's really great to wear to parties or a fun night out on the town. I couldn't find a green and white dress with cards all over it, but I did find a red black and white dress that can been paired with cards and dice accessories that will surely give off the same vibe. I find with Katy's look, she's kind of quirky in her style but always finds things that flatter her. She's "weird" without being unattractive. Always remember, don't be afraid of color, don't be afraid of pattern and always commit to the look. Otherwise you would just look awkward.
Pretty In Pink Look
Katy always mixes up her bold looks with soft ones like this. Keeps us on our toes. Here she's wearing a silk soft pink short jumpsuit with a black sash, black hose and soft pink and black shoes. Classy, cute, girly and we love! If you're having a hard time find a one piece short jumpsuit, you can always search for a wrap dress or a long button up shirt, belt it with the sash and continue recreating the look. Whatever you find, keep it simple, keep the shoes basic and soft and the look will be successfully recreated.
Pin Up Girl Look
Here they are, the high waisted short shorts paired with a halter top with pops of color in the accessories. Katy found this outfit in a vintage store and rocked it on the red carpet. She proves that you don't need to wear designer to be best dressed! Notice her shorts and top are a blend of soft pinks/peaches/beige and then she pops it with hot pink metallic pumps, a sparkly american flag clutch and a feather brooch. Yummmo! You can recreate this outfit using any color that best flatters your skin tone and hair color. Focus on getting the elements of the accessories down in order to replicate this look.
I know I personally gave Miley Cyrus' 2009 Oscar dress a thumbs down for being over the top. However, the replica of this dress is out and it's not too bad! I think my biggest issue with the original was the sheer volume of the scallops on Miley's dress that gave me the heebs. It reminded me of algae and coral and other underwater plants and creatures and that's why I didn't like it.
However, they toned down Miley's Oscar dress in order to sell it in the real world and I must say, a little bit of this scallop detail makes this short dress unique. This is a cute, flirty and fun dress to wear out for the evening or for a homecoming dance. A guess a design inspiration really does come from places where you least expect!
A refreshing sight to see, Asian American actress Brenda Song is best known for being a part of the Disney family. She's cute, bubbly sophisticated and actually works for her part in the young Hollywood crowd. Brenda Song started show business at an early age and I think she will become the next Asian American super starlet. She is full of style and has caught my eye on many red carpet occasions. It only made sense I replicate her look. Brenda's style is fun, young, colorful and full of pattern. Her look can be pulled off by anyone between the ages of 16-25 years old. So let me break it down for you:
Brenda's Evening Look:
Brenda is in a red one shoulder dress with black lace detail. This dress is great for homecoming dances, a night out to dinner, a benefit event or any other event where you would need to dress in subtle sexy sophistication. I love this dress because a bold red dress needs to be a part of everyone's wardrobe. Red is a powerful and sexy color, but the way that this dress is cut, it isn't slutty or overly sexy. It's age appropriate, but you'd still draw attention and turn heads in this number. I found an exact replica and also an alternative if you would like to just be inspired by this look.
Brenda's Young and Girly Look:
This is a very young and fresh look. Brenda's dress has variations of pink with a corseted top and pinch draped skirt. To not draw attention away from the colors and the style, a simple gold pump was paired with this dress. I took this inspiration and found some corseted dresses that had a poofed skirt. Also, since booties are in and I love them so much, I found metallic gold booties that would rock up the look without being too hard. I see this dress in a early evening party setting. I found some dresses that are similar in color and style that would be great to homecoming dances in the springtime or an afternoon brunch with girlfriends. However you choose to interpret the look, make it your own and wear it with confidence!
Brenda's "Great for the Office" Look:
Love this ensemble that Brenda is wearing! It's great for work, it's comfortable, sophisticated, but still fun. The chiffon pattern blouse is the center of attention. Find chiffon blouses that have you favorite pattern, pop it with some color and have fun with it. Go all out with the top because you're going to be pairing it with a black structured skirt and a solid black belt. If you're wearing this to work, you can keep it simple with simple black pumps. But for extra flair, try a more conservative bootie with stockings. Fabulous!
Brenda's Daytime Fun Look:
Hot pink shorts with a black blouse, it doesn't get any easier and it doesn't get any cuter! This is probably gonna easily replicated by going to any teeny bopper mom and pop fashion store or Forever 21. Make sure that the shorts are structured and the top is a little more flowy. Any black blouse will work as long as we have the contrast of structure vs. loose fitting. This look is great for running errands, going out during the day. It's comfortable and simple, but unique in style. Pair is with black pumps of studded shoes for that extra detail.
Can I just take a second out and admire this hot item! I don't know if you've seen the "invisible shoes" designed by Andreia Chaves. It's a shoe made of a wedge of mirrors that are made to look like your feet has disappeared. They are as comfortable as they look and will probably only show up in a museum or in a Lady Gaga video.
However! I found a great replica from this inspiration and it is something that you can actually purchase and be able to walk in. I give to you, the Thakoon Mirror Mosaic Ankle Boots! It was $1195, now on sale for $597. Still a hefty price tag, but you can see that there was effort in designing these shoes and I totally appreciate that! These shoes are Yummalicious!
