It reduces body fat by decreasing the number of fat cells and decreasing fat that is stored after a meal. In addition, it also builds lean muscle tissue and increases the rate of fat metabolism.

Bad news (Part II): There are a lot of impure versions of CLA being sold on the market today that will burn a hole in your wallet, but do nothing for your waistline. Here's what you want to look for:

  • Make sure the capsules have 100% pure SAFFLOWER oil. Do NOT buy the ones that say it uses sunflower oil or even a safflower/sunflower oil blend. The ones that include sunflower oil have less of the active fat loss ingredients.
  • The entire capsule should be at least 1000mg.
  • 750-1000mg of the capsule should be composed of CLA.

Quinoa Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wah), known as the "mother of all grains," is my pick for one of the best protein sources and rice replacement.  Of course, we all know white rice is not the first choice when it comes to staying slim.  It is high in carbs and low in protein.  As a healthier choice, some people eat brown rice instead of white.  But quinoa, in my opinion, stands head and shoulders above even brown rice.  Its protein content is very high (12-18%) and it's low in carbs, which is especially important for vegetarians and vegans.  What's more, it is a complete protein source, containing a balanced set of essential amino acids.  Quinoa is also a great source of fiber and high in magnesium and iron; you just can't argue with the power in its punch!  And the best quality?  It tastes great!

Quinoa PreparedPrepare quinoa as you would prepare rice.  I use a rice cooker to make life easier for myself.  Use one part quinoa to two parts water.  For example, put one cup of quinoa and two cups of water into your rice cooker, put the lid on, press the "cook" button and you're done!  (To make quinoa extra tasty, use vegetable broth instead of water).  You can make great vegetable pilaf with this, or just eat it with stir-fry. Like I said, it is a great rice substitute, so add it wherever you would add rice in your dishes.  Bon appetit!

Affirmations for a Healthy Life

Repeat all 10 affirmations aloud 10 times throughout the day. Gradually increase your affirmations to 20, then 30, and so on, covering all aspects of your life that you want to push to the next level. Again, repeat these 10 times a day.

It is 2009, there is no better time to change your life. And when it comes to changing your life, there is no better WAY than to change your MIND.

Ok, I do understand you have a hectic life with little time to brush your hair let alone prepare a nice, healthy meal. Your car will inevitably make its way up to the drive-thru window, and there's nothing I can do about it. But being the great friend that I am, I'm right there with you!! We'll enter the fiery gates of destruction that is fast food, and with a good strategy, can still come out alive...a little charred, but still breathing. Alright, listen up gang, here's the plan---we're goin' in!!
