Trendy Plaids For Women

If you've been shopping, you may be noticing the sea of different, colorful, bold, sort of obnoxious plaids screaming in the window of every store. Ahh yes, plaids have always been around, but this year, they're taking over. How do I feel about this? Pretty good, pretty good. I think it's another print that you can mix into your wardrobe to spice up your style. The 80s fashions are taking over along with the plaids...personally, I thought 80s fashions were pretty gnarly (and not in a good way). I prefer to take the 80s and modernize it into 2009, so that way I don't look like I shop at garage sales.  Ladies, this one is for you.  I want to show you some of the best ways women can be sexy in plaid.  Here are 3 things to consider.

  1. How much is too much??
    Don't let paid wear you.

    Attack of the plaid monster.

Believe me, plaid has a LIMIT!  If you're wearing plaid from head to toe, it'll look like you were swallowed by the plaid monster.  I don't care what stylists are saying about mixing a bunch of loud patterns.  I think it's dangerous and ugly.  In 2008, they were trying to tell me to mix florals with geometrics that were screaming in pattern and color. You know what? They were wrong.  Very rarely did it ever work and a lot of people didn't know what they were doing.  So I think stylists were just setting us up for fashion disasters to make fun of later.  Not cool fashion industry, not cool.  What I do know is this: when you have a bold pattern, pair and layer it with solid colors and let the plaid peek through.  That way, it's present, but you're not going to look at a picture 5-10 years from now and say "What was I thinking?"  Trust me, if you're not taking my fashion advice, you'll definitely be saying that.

  2. good plaids for women

Class up the plaid look with different fabrics.

    Type of fabric.
The type of fabric can be very important, especially with this pattern. You have to be clear on what look you're going for.  As shown on the right, if you go for a sheer or taffeta, you can class up the look for work or a special occasion dress.  You don't always have to look like a farmer when wearing plaid, so go for plaid in different fabrics to give you a more high end look. You'll be sure to turn heads!

Love the jacket! is that the one that Katie Holmes wore a little while back? Looked very chic with a pair of jeans.

My fave plaid look now is an ombre Elizabeth and James shirt…had it on my blog entry “The City Recap: Fashion Drama” :)

It’s sometimes a hard balance to keep plaid from looking manly and lumberjack or too schoolgirl. These styles are great though. Chic and glamorous!
